Mana whenua values

Discussions about mana whenua values and architecture/urban planning issues in Otautahi (a.k.a. Christchurch) see the following links:

Pauling, Craig and Kepa Morgan. ‘Te Kaupapa o te Whare: House of Tahu Cultural Sustainability Assessment.’ Report for Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu. 2006. [discusses outcomes from charettes and compiles a list of design values for Ngai Tahu buildings]

Tau, Te Maire. ‘Cultural Report on the Southwest Area Plan for the Christchurch City Council.’ [area specific but still very interesting]

Christchurch City Council. ‘South-west Christchurch Area Plan: Phase 1 Report—Tangata Whenua Values.’ 2008.

Thanks to Deidre Brown for this.

Kathy Waghorn works across art, architecture and urbanism. Her last project in this part of Auckland involved a close empirical study of informal urbanism at Avondale Racecourse, mapping the events that currently occur there (horse racing, pigeon racing, dance lessons, bingo, soccer, cricket and the weekly flea and produce market to name just a few) then proposing a series of ‘inserted events’ occupying interstitial time and maximising use of this under recognized neighborhood amenity. Kathy is a lecturer in architecture at The University of Auckland and is carrying out a Phd through the RMIT School of Architecture and Design in Melbourne.
